BAY FERRIES “PRINCESS OF ACADIA” and the NEW BRUNSWICK MUSEUM ANNOUNCE WINNERS of the TREASURES OF THE BAY
‘CAPTAIN FOR A DAY’ EDUCATION PROGRAM

Recently, the Princess of Acadia and the New Brunswick Museum announced a new program for students in grades 3 through 5, with one lucky child from New Brunswick and one from Nova Scotia being awarded the title and experience of being ‘Captain for a Day.’ Students were invited to create a treasure map illustrating what makes the Bay of Fundy special and highlighting the unique wonders of the Bay.
Students from both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia were invited to enter. The winners are as follows:
Carrie May Lafford, Riverside Consolidated School in Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick
Shanay Bent, Barton Consolidated School, Barton, Nova Scotia
Additionally, Bay Ferries and the New Brunswick Museum created a ‘Special Whale Watcher Award’ on the strength of an entry from:
Aliyah Washington, from Glen Falls Elementary School in Saint John, New Brunswick
A photo opportunity for local media will be available on June 24. Carrie May, crew members from the Princess of Acadia and staff from the New Brunswick Museum will be available at the Saint John terminal at 11:45 am. Shanay, crew members from the ship and staff from the New Brunswick Museum will be available at the Digby terminal at 3:45 pm.
Carrie May and Shanay will become ‘Captains for a Day’ later this summer. Each child will visit the wheelhouse and receive free round-trip passage aboard the ship for themselves, up to four family members and a vehicle. The families will enjoy premium bracelets and a free pizza meal at Upper Clements Park and free family admission to the New Brunswick Museum.
Shanay and her family will also receive two nights of lodging with breakfast each day at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Saint John; a food voucher at Pizza Hut; a free family geo-caching adventure in Rockwood Park, hosted by Daytripping; and free lunch at Lily’s Café in Rockwood Park.
Carrie May and her family will enjoy a two-night stay with breakfast each day at the Digby Pines Golf Resort & Spa, with free lunch or dinner at the 19th Hole restaurant.
Aliyah and her family will enjoy a daylong Sea. Cruise on the Princess of Acadia which includes round trip walk on transportation and a 10% discount voucher for food & beverage on the ship, as well as free admission to tour the Hall of the Great Whales at the New Brunswick Museum.
Selected entries will be displayed on board the Princess of Acadia during July and August.
Increased awareness of Bay of Fundy and New Brunswick attractions and history is also being encouraged through complimentary New Brunswick Museum family admission passes presented to all eligible entrants, for use if they visit Saint John this summer.
‘Treasures of the Bay’ is part of the partnership between Bay Ferries and the New Brunswick Museum and is supported by area hotels, restaurants and attractions, including Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Saint John, Pizza Hut, Lily’s Café and Geo-Caching, hosted by Daytripping in New Brunswick. In Nova Scotia, Upper Clements Park and the Digby Pines Golf Resort & Spa all proudly support the program.
